Decorate for Autumn

Even though we are still having some very hot days in Australia the hours of light are gradually getting shorter & I for one am looking forward to some cooler weather and seeing warmer tones at home & in nature with fresh autumn leaves, hot chocolate & cosying up to a warm fire.  These 6 tips will help you transition your home into the cooler months with some simple changes.

01 Colour

Introduce a warm, grounded palette into your home with autumnal tones of deep muted yellows, oranges, reds, greens & neutrals in a natural texture.

 02 Layer

Just as you layer your winter clothing, layer your home with cosy throws, blankets and cushions in soft wool or velvets.  Add a basket of blankets in the corner to use as the days cool or to throw over your furnishings; such as a lounge, occasional chair or bed.

03 Texture & Pattern

Add interest into your soft furnishings like rugs, ottomans, cushions & throws with chunky knits, thick materials and patterns or plaid, stripe, tartan or tweed.

04 Nature

Introduce nature into your home with a vase of large tree branches from a Cherry Tree or Crabapple & showcase seasonal fruits like pumpkins, figs & persimmons in a large bowl.

04 Scent

Bring the scent of Autumn into your home with woody, spicy scented candles & the rich aroma of  hearty soups & slow-cooked stews.

 05 Lighting

Create a moody ambience with table lamps, floor lamps and candles in a soft yellow tone.  If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace the warm glow will add to the feel.

06 Outdoors

Your outdoor entertaining areas can be given an autumn touch with a fire pit & layers of warm blankets & cosy cushions in warm tones
